Data controller

The controller of the data collected on this site and in the app is Denis Cadamuro, reachable at privacy [at] eteext [dot] com.

Data collected

Newsletter. If you sign up through the form on this site, we collect your email address (provided voluntarily), the language of the site you use (so we can contact you in that language), and technical data proving your consent (date and time of sign-up, possibly IP address), recorded by our email provider.

App account. If you create an ETeext account, we collect your email address (used to sign in with a 6-digit code sent by email, Google Sign-In, or Sign in with Apple) and account information needed to operate the service: your subscription status (trial, free, or PRO), trial and subscription dates, and account creation date.

Payments. If you subscribe to ETeext PRO, payment is handled by Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes your payment details (card or other payment method, billing address, country for tax purposes). We never see or store your card details. We only receive from Paddle the information needed to activate your subscription: a customer reference, a subscription reference, and its status and renewal dates.

AI features. The optional AI features use your own Google Gemini API key. That key is stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Your texts. The texts you type and style in ETeext are processed on your device. We do not collect, store, or read them.

Audience measurement. We count page views — with no advertising cookie, no profile, and no tracking from one site to another. Two counts coexist. Our host's audience measurement (Cloudflare Web Analytics): pages viewed, browser, operating system, country — never a personal identifier. And our own count, performed on our servers, which totals arrivals per day and per source (the host name of the site that sent you, or the campaign parameter in the address), as well as clicks on our sharing links, by language. Our own count uses no cookie, never keeps the full address you came from, and cannot identify you.

Assistant questions. If you ask a question through the assistant on this site, we collect the question and technical data about the request — no email address, no IP address and no account. Details in Assistant questions below.

Contact form. If you write to us through the contact form, we collect the name you give, your email address, your message, and the topic when you arrive from a legal page. Nothing goes into a database: the message is sent to us by email through our email provider and lives in our mailbox.

No other personal data is requested or collected.

Purpose

• Newsletter email: to send you ETeext news and new features, and for nothing else.
• Account data: to operate your account, apply the correct plan (trial, free, PRO), and secure sign-in.
• Payment references: to activate, renew, or end your PRO subscription.
• Assistant questions: to answer you, and to let the app's creator review the answers and correct the documentation when one was not accurate enough.
• Contact messages: to answer you, and to keep track of the exchange until it is settled.
• Audience measurement: to know how many people visit the site and where they arrive from, so we can decide what to improve.

Legal basis

• Newsletter: your explicit consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
• Account and subscription data: performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) — this data is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
• Assistant questions: our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in answering you and improving the documentation. You choose whether to ask.
• Contact messages: our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in answering the messages you send us.
• Audience measurement: our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in understanding how the site is used. No profile is built and no advertising cookie is set.

Recipients and processors

Your data is processed by providers acting as processors or independent controllers:

• Supabase (account database and authentication). Your account data is hosted in the European Union.
• Paddle (payments, as Merchant of Record). Paddle acts as the seller for your PRO subscription and processes your payment data under its own privacy policy, available at paddle.com. When you start a payment, Paddle also loads ProfitWell (sold under the name Paddle Retain), a subscription analytics service whose servers are located in the United States: your IP address and your browser’s technical details reach it as a result. This service is not loaded if you do not start a payment.
• Loops (email service, established in the United States: newsletter data is hosted and processed there. For individuals residing in the European Union, this storage constitutes a transfer outside the EU, under appropriate safeguards — Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework).
• Resend (email delivery service, established in the United States: when the contact form is used, the sender's name, email address and message are routed through Resend to reach us. For individuals residing in the European Union, this constitutes a transfer outside the EU, under appropriate safeguards — Standard Contractual Clauses).
• Cloudflare (website hosting and storage of assistant questions, audience measurement, anti-spam protection of the form via Turnstile, and technical handling of the submission).
• Google (Gemini): if you choose Google Sign-In; if you use the app's AI features with your own Gemini key, under Google's own terms; and when you ask the assistant on this site — the question is then sent to the Gemini API by our server, using our key, under Google's terms.
• Apple (Sign in with Apple): if you choose this method, Apple confirms your identity and provides us with an email address — a relay address if you use Hide My Email. Under Apple’s own terms.

Your data is never sold, transferred, or rented to third parties for commercial purposes.

Data retention

• Newsletter email: kept for as long as you stay subscribed. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the emails at once. You can also ask us to erase your address entirely.
• Account data: kept as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your data is deleted, subject to legal retention obligations (e.g. billing records kept by Paddle).
• Assistant questions: unpublished questions are deleted after 12 months. Questions selected for the Questions people ask page remain published there. They carry no email address, no IP address and no account.
• Contact messages: kept for 12 months in our mailbox, then deleted.
• Audience measurement: our own counts are aggregates — a number per source and per day, with no identifier — and are kept without a time limit. The host’s audience measurement follows Cloudflare’s own retention period.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights: access, rectification, erasure, withdrawal of consent, objection, and portability of your data. To exercise them, use our contact form or write to privacy [at] eteext [dot] com. Every marketing email you receive also includes an immediate unsubscribe link.

Complaint

If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority — in France, the CNIL (www.cnil.fr).

Cookies

This site does not use tracking or advertising cookies. Language detection relies on the preferences sent by your browser. The app stores technical preferences (such as language and your locally stored settings) on your device only.

Assistant questions

The assistant on this site answers from ETeext's own documentation. Here is exactly what happens when you ask it something.

What we keep. The question as you wrote it, the page and language you asked from, the answer given, and technical data about the request (date, model, tokens, cost). Each question carries a random identifier only — it is not linked to an email address, an IP address or an account, and we cannot trace it back to you.

Before anything is stored. The question is checked for personal details — an address, a link, a phone number, a block of pasted text. Questions that appear to contain them are not stored. We check, we do not rewrite.

Where it goes. Your question is sent by our server to Google's Gemini API, using our own key, so that it can be answered — under Google's terms. Questions are stored by our host, Cloudflare.

Why we keep it. So the app's creator can read the answers and correct the documentation when one was not accurate enough. Selected questions and answers may be published, as they were asked, on the Questions people ask page.
