Where you can insert styled text on Telegram
Telegram shows styled Unicode in messages, names, channel and group titles and descriptions and your bio — but not the ASCII-only @username.
Styled Unicode usually works in these spots:
- messages ~4096 characters
- your bio ~70 characters Premium
- channel names ~255 characters
- channel descriptions ~255 characters
- your display name
Depends on your account — the bio length is plan-gated: about 70 characters on a free account, about 140 with Telegram Premium (which also extends media captions).
Our tip — style your display name, channel title and bio; never try the @username, which rejects non-ASCII characters.

Does styled text work everywhere on Telegram?
Not always — it depends on the field. Some spots accept styled Unicode, others keep their own in-app fonts. Check the list above and preview with Safe Mode.
Why do some characters show as squares on Telegram?
Some devices don’t have the glyph, so it appears as an empty square (“tofu”). ETeext’s Safe Mode swaps the riskiest characters for readable ones.
