The AI menu ("AI Assistant ✨") offers five named tools. These are PRO features, powered by your own free Google AI Studio key, which means ETeext never bills you for AI usage.

Here is what the AI tools can do:

1. "Correct spelling": This fixes the text currently in the editor by replacing it. If you need to revert the changes, the Undo button restores your original text.
2. "Translate to...": This allows you to enter any target language or style (for example, "Spanish" or "Shakespearean English") in a free-text field. It replaces the editor text with the translation.
3. "Generate hashtags": This generates and appends relevant hashtags directly below your text without replacing your original content.
4. "Optimize for socials": This rewrites your post to make it catchier by optimizing the tone, adding emojis, and creating an engaging hook. The Undo button is available to restore your original text if needed.
5. "Free Prompt": This opens the "💬 Ask AI..." modal where you can type any custom instruction, with or without existing text in the editor (such as "write a catchy Instagram bio", "5 viral post ideas", or "summarize the text above"). It includes an "Add below" toggle which is checked by default to keep your original text and append the AI's answer; if you uncheck it, the answer will overwrite the editor. Undo restores your text either way.

Once the AI generates your text, you can apply any of the ETeext styles to it just like you would with any other text.

To set this up, go to Settings (the gear icon), paste your Gemini key, and click "Load API Key". You can find a step-by-step guide at /help/api-key/ on the website.

Two things worth knowing before you post

Styled text weighs more than it looks. The counter under the editor shows the real weight — the one platforms measure — which matters most for your bio, where the limit is strict. The multiplier depends on the style family: typography styles (bold, italic, gothic, script, monospace) are a constant ×2, while the Zalgo family grows with the density of its marks — ×2.6 for Zalgo Léger, ×9.8 for Zalgo Intense, ×18.8 for Total Corruption. Multiply your own character count by the right factor rather than assuming ×2 everywhere.

Keep plain anything a machine has to recognise. On WhatsApp Desktop we measured that a styled @mention is no longer recognised, and a styled link is no longer clickable. The text is intact and displays correctly — it simply lost its function. Style what only human eyes read, and leave mentions, links and hashtags in plain characters.

If you write with accents, Safe Mode leaves your accented letters as plain characters, so they stay readable everywhere you paste your text.
